Children Cycling for Children was set up by a group of local people, who live or work in Warwick, to facilitate an event where local children cycle with their parents or carers at annual event to raise money for impoverished and needy children.
The group were inspired by a local couple who personally fund-raised over £12,500 by cycling over 420 kilometres in 5 days in Kenya in November 2007 for the International Childcare Trust.
Our intention is to inspire children, their families and communities Warwickshire wide to come together once a year to contribute to children locally and internationally by cycling together.
In November 2007, over 50 children and their parents cycled 10kms in Victoria Park in Leamington and over £1200 was fund-raised by them. Grandparents attended and cheered on the children. A dress up your bike competition saw children arrive with bikes decorated as a cow, rocket, plane etc. The response from this group and request to participate again has encouraged CCFC to build on that event. The local St John’s Ambulance brought their cycle units, Safer Neighbourhoods attended and promised continued and greater support in the future.
Through partnerships with local grassroots NGO’s in Africa and Asia, ICT continues to provide essential support to thousands of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families each year. As well as providing direct benefits to children, their families and communities, such as improved healthcare, quality education, vocational training, counselling and protection from harm, ICT develops the capacity of its partners to manage and sustain their activities on a longer-term basis. This enables them to carry on their important work well into the future without the support from ICT.
